The
Department of Public Works is responsible
for all public works projects within the City of
Slidell. In order to accomplish this mission, the
department has control over these divisions Streets,
Bridges and Drainage, Electrical, Vehicle Maintenance,
and Sign Shop.
The
Streets Division is responsible for concrete
street panels, sidewalk and curbing repairs. This
division also maintains all asphalt streets and
new asphalt overlays. The street sweeper is assigned
to this division, cleaning and sweeping all curbed
streets within the City of Slidell on a yearly schedule.
The
Bridges and Drainage Division is responsible
for the following: cleaning storm drains, catch
basins, culverts and road side ditches, repairing
of drainage related cave-ins and installating of
small sub-surface drainage projects, including reinforced
concrete pipe of various sizes, and appropriate
drop inlets. This division also maintains all canals
within the City of Slidell by cleaning and reshaping
all major drainage arteries throughout the City
on an eighteen month cleaning cycle. It is also
responsible for the maintenance, inspection and
repairs to all drainage pumping stations within
the City of Slidell. This division inspects all
City owned bridges, within City limits, every two
years and maintains bridges as needed.
The
Electrical Division is responsible for
electrical maintenance of all existing equipment,
plus installation of new equipment in all City buildings,
recreation facilities, water wells, lift stations
and sewer treatment plants.
The
Vehicle Maintenance Division is responsible
for the routine and timely maintenance of all City
vehicles and equipment, as well as the maintenance
of appropriate records for each vehicle. The computer
program, NOLA Computer Services, Inc. "Fleet
Management System" is continuing in full operation
including Fuelman interface.
The
Sign Shop Division is responsible for assisting
the Departments of Public Works, Public Utilities,
Recreation and the Chief of Staff in placing barricades
with flashing lights for various projects and street
block functions. Additionally it maintains and builds
the barricades, maintains all signs throughout the
City of Slidell and the paints all school crossings.
The
Ground Maintenance Division cleans debris
and cuts grass on medians, side streets and sidewalks
around the city throughout the year. The crews also
maintain plants in city medians, by trimming and
planting. Additional areas covered include Greenwood
Cemetery, all lift stations, the commuter parking
lot on Lindberg and schools in the city.
The
General Maintenance Division is responsible
for the regular maintenance, repair and cleaning
of the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, City Hall,
City Hall Annex, Recreation Hall, Rufus Viner Center,
and meeting rooms on a daily basis. Another responsibility
of the General Maintenance Division is the setting
up of tables, chairs, and some audio equipment for
all scheduled events in the Auditorium and some
in the Recreation Hall.
