The
mission of the Slidell Police Department is multifaceted.
Not only do we enforce the law, we must provide our
community with a well managed and professional police
department. We must interface with the community,
both residential and business, and provide them with
information on how to best protect themselves, their
children and their property from those who prey on
society. We work closely with our schools to insure
that our children are knowledgeable about the dangers
of drugs and alcohol.
The
citizens of Slidell should be proud of their police
department and of themselves. Their police department
is nationally accredited, runs a certified police
training academy and leads the state, if not the nation,
in advanced technology to fight crime. The citizens
are and have been one of the police department’s
most effective assets. They have assisted this department
by consistently providing us with information, identifying
criminals and criminal activity and, in several instances,
assisting in the apprehension of criminals.
All
of the above sounds like the usual platitudes. However,
the proof is demonstrated in our low crime rate and
above average crime solving. According to 2000 statistics,
violent crime was down 17% and property crime down
6% in 2000.
The
credit for maintaining our quality of life and safety
belongs in the hands of the men and women of the Slidell
Police Department, the City Administration, the Council
and the citizens who are there to help us so often.
Post
Katrina has brought about many challenges. Each step
forward brings with it new obstacles. We are determined
to meet these head-on in order to restore our city
to the quality of life our community has come to enjoy
and expect.
