Four Cars Stolen in Two Weeks
11/02/2006 7:01am
Chief Freddy Drennan wants to advise all citizens that over the last two weeks four vehicles have been stolen while the owners were nearby with the keys in the vehicle. The suspect in all cases has been described as a black male approximately 6” feet tall with a thin build. The suspect or suspects have possible stolen as many as four vehicles from the Slidell area since November 26.
During the first incident, on November 26 at 12:52pm a Silver 1998 Acura bearing Louisiana License plate number HEG766 was stolen from the car wash at 1342 Gause Blvd. Witnesses advised that the suspect had been in the area looking for a job at the car wash and exited the business and entered the vehicle and was last seen heading west on Gause Blvd. The vehicle was sitting out front waiting to be dried off at the time of the theft.
Then on November 28, at approximately 10:09am a 1999 White Chevrolet Utility type truck was stolen from in front of 665 Gause Blvd. while its owner was inside the building doing electrical work. The suspect was described only as a black male. The vehicle was last seen heading down Audubon towards West Hall Avenue. This vehicle was recovered on 12-4-07 in Metairie, Louisiana.
On December 6, at approximately 11:57am a Silver 2008 Nissan Altima bearing Louisiana License plate number RPX992 was stolen from the parking lot of Rite Aid at 114 Gause Blvd. The owner’s mother had arrived at the location and saw a black male entering her daughter’s vehicle, which was parked next to her. The suspect was described as being approximately 6” foot tall with a thin build. This vehicle had a keyless entry system along with a sensor type key that automatically starts the vehicle. The owner was still in possession of the keys. Since the witness ran into the store to alert her daughter she did not see what direction the vehicle went.
On December 7, at approximately 11:25am a 2007 Black 4 door Ford Focus bearing a Louisiana temporary tag number 12491625 was stolen from the Racetrac at 1720 Gause Blvd. The owner of the vehicle advised that she left her keys on the front seat when she entered the store to pay for her gas. As she was inside the store a black male suspect described as being approximately 6” foot tall thin build with a lot of bright tattoos on his arms was seen entering the vehicle. The vehicle was last seen heading west on Gause Blvd. A short time later Slidell Police were advised that a State Trooper working in New Orleans East attempted to stop the vehicle for speeding. The vehicle refused to stop; the State Police lost the vehicle before being able to stop it.
Chief Drennan said “I want to let the public know that we were having these types of incidents and to please lock your vehicle anytime it is unattended.”
Speeding Through Flooded Areas
12/05/2003 12:00pm
The Slidell Police Department will be issuing citations to any motorist caught violating city ordinance, Section 27-52, Vehicular Traffic During Flooding, Hazardous or Abnormal Conditions.
During two recent neighborhood flooding events in the city, the department received several complaints from residents regarding the speeding of motorists on flooded streets. Speeding vehicles send waves of water into homes. Many homes would have escaped flood damage if speeding motorists would have not created these waves of water.
The city ordinance reads:
(a) No person shall drive a vehicle on any street within the city at a greater speed than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and potential hazards, having due regard for the traffic on, the conditions on the surface of, and the properties adjacent to the street and the condition of the weather, and in no event at a speed in excess of the maximum speed established by ordinance.
(b) No person shall circumvent the use of barricades, by removal, driving around or otherwise, placed by the city in order to prohibit vehicular traffic upon certain streets during flooding, hazardous or abnormal conditions.
(c) Violation of the provisions of this section shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.00 or imprisonment for a term not to exceed 15 days, or both. The court may order restitution for property damages caused in relation to violation of this section.
(d) This section shall not apply to official emergency or rescue personnel performing their duties.
Officers have been instructed to cite ALL violators!

Charitable Donations
12/03/2003 4:01pm
The department had received numerous complaints from residents concerning telephone calls they have received about agencies collecting donations for the police department. The Slidell Police Department DOES NOT solicit for donations, however, the various police lodges across Louisiana do have charity drives. One such local police organization currently conducting a drive is the Fraternal Order of Police #13(FOP).
When any organization calls asking for pledges, protect yourself from fraud by never giving your credit card number over the telephone. Ask the caller to send information in the mail about the organization, what services the organization provides to the community, how a donation will be used and what percentage of the donation actually goes toward services, etc. (Many organizations pay telemarketers a percentage of what is collected as well as using the money for 'other' things.)
Also, be leery of donating money to individuals who are located on street corners and intersections. All to often, individuals or groups pretend to be church organizations and other charity groups who may be soliciting for various causes, such as to "Feed The Homeless" or to " Fight Cancer." We encougage all citizens wanting to make donations to seek local reputable churches, charities and organizations. Donations made to out-of-town groups may used in other ways or may not make it to its intended charity, church or organization.
Anyone having questions, please do not hesitate to call me, Lt. Rob Callahan at 985-646-4336.
Roofing Repair Scam
12/03/2003 3:01am
On February 27, 2004, two local senior citizens became the victims of a roofing repair scam perpetrated by two white male individuals.
A 70-year-old male reported being awakened at 11:00 a.m. by the sound of "knocking" coming from the rear of his home. When he went to investigate, he discovered two male suspects standing in his livingroom. The suspects convinced the victim his roof was leaking and that they had already performed the necessary repairs. The suspects asked for $4,000 in payment, but the victim only had $400 on him. After going to his bank with the two suspects to withdraw the additional amount, an alert bank teller sensed a possible scam and called the department. The two suspects fled with only $400 of the victim's money.
Shortly thereafter at 12:44 p.m., a 78-year-old female called to report a similar scam. As she was walking out her residence, two male suspects pulled into her driveway in a white Ford van and convinced her her roof was leaking. Taking her back inside her home, the suspects distracted her while one sprayed a pale orange-colored liquid on the ceiling and walls. The suspects pointed out the "leaks" and offered to fix the problem for a "minimal amount of money." When she advised them she had to check with a family member first, the two quickly left. After the two were gone, the victim found two prescription bottles of medication stolen from her bedroom.
Description of the Suspects and their Vehicle: Two white males, approximately early 30's to mid 30's in age. The vehicle was described as a "new model" white Ford work-type van.
NEVER let (unknown) individuals in your home! Once inside, the perpetrator can do anything to you.
Anyone with information about these individuals is asked to call the department at 985-643-3131.
