Child Passenger Safety
Properly used child safety seats decrease the risk of death by 71% for infants and 54% for toddlers. Injury risks for children using belt-positioning booster seats are reduced by 59%. Child passenger safety is the responsibility of every driver who transports a child or children under the age of 13. Knowing which type of child safety seat is appropriate is sometimes confusing, as the age and weight of the child must be considered. Louisiana Revised Statue Title 32:295 addresses the requirements for the child passenger restraint system and is provided to assist parents and drivers in the protection of their children. If further clarification is required about child passenger safety restraints, please contact the Slidell Police Department Patrol Division at (985) 646-4294.
