Records Bureau Function:

The Criminal Records Divisions primary function is to assist the citizens of our community by reviewing, controlling, and distributing Police Reports and Public Records in cooperation with other agencies. Other daily functions include: conducting criminal background checks, traffic citations, warrants, arrest paperwork, registration of convicted sex offenders, public record requests, mail-in requests, as well as requests for accident reports.

Report Requests:

The Criminal Records Division accepts report requests either by mail or in person (with identification) at the cost of $10.00 per police report. The $10.00 fee covers the first twenty pages.  An additional twenty-five cents (.25) will be charged for each page thereafter. The cost for a compact disc containing photos will be $25.00 per disc.

If you are requesting an accident report, please note that you must present identification in order to get the accident report, also from the date of your accident; it may take 7-10 business days for the report to be completed. Also, please be advised that under Louisiana State Law the following applies, no exceptions will be made:

The information contained in the reports, shall be confidential, and shall be exempt from the provisions of R.S. 44:1 (The LA Public Records Law), and shall be made available only:

  • To the involved parties of the accident
  • To Parents or Guardians of a minor who is a party to the accident
  • To Insurers of any party which is the subject of the report
  • To the succession representatives of those parties
  • To the attorneys of the parties or succession representatives
  • To a news-gathering organization that requests documents related to the accident.

Criminal Background Checks:

Criminal Background checks are performed daily, from 8am-4pm. You must appear in person with picture identification (we cannot perform a background check without identification) and the request will be attended to while you wait. The process takes approximately 5 minutes. At this time there is no charge for the background checks.
