The Citizens Academy will give students an in-depth and behind the scenes look at the operations and functions of the Slidell Police Department, with classes including presentations from the following divisions: Crime Scene, Evidence Processing, S.W.A.T, Communications, Patrol, Corrections and Criminal Investigations. Starting on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, classes will be held every Wednesday from 7:00pm until 10:00pm, with graduation on October 30, 2013.
Anyone 19 years of age, or older, can apply as long as they have no felony convictions. Prior to attending the academy, a background check will be conducted on all applicants. Students will be allowed to ride along with a patrol officer to see, first hand, what it’s like to be Slidell Police officer. Students will be exposed to all aspects of the operations of the Slidell Police Department. The Citizens Academy will be limited to the first 40 qualified candidates.
The first class with be at the Slidell Police Department, and all other classes will be held at the Slidell Police Department’s Regional Training Academy, located at the Camp Villere National Guard Base off of Airport Road in Slidell.
Applications can be picked up in Chief Randy Smith’s Office located at 2112 Sgt. Alfred Drive or can be downloaded by visiting our website at www.slidellpd.com. Completed applications can be dropped off at the Slidell Police Department, e-mailed to PIO@slidellpd.com, or faxed to 985-643-4346.
