Mixed Media 2010 Winners Announced
The winners of the City of Slidell’s nineteenth annual Mixed Media juried exhibit were announced at the exhibit’s opening reception, Friday, January 15, and awards were presented by Mayor Ben Morris.

City of Slidell’s Outdoor Mural Gallery Adds “Geraldine the Egret” to its Collection
Artist Carol Hallock recently presented her newly-completed mural, a swamp scene with “Geraldine the egret” perched upon a stump in the swamp, to City of Slidell Mayor Ben Morris. The artwork, which is located at Fremaux and Front Street, can be enjoyed by people traveling along Front Street, and can also be viewed by passengers traveling on the Amtrak passenger train, which passes through Slidell twice daily.

Deadline for Artists to Enter Mixed Media Draws Near
The deadline for artists to enter the City of Slidell’s eighteenth annual Mixed Media juried exhibition is drawing near. Submissions are due to the Department of Cultural & Public Affairs on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009.

2009-2010 Cultural Season offers many reasons to Celebrate Slidell
“Celebrate Slidell” is the theme for the City of Slidell’s upcoming Cultural Season, and the celebration has already kicked off in full force with the recent Cultural Extravaganza Super Bowl Exhibit and auction, and the wonderfully successful Olde Towne Alive! Block party, just a few of the many events to come in the year ahead.
The city’s 2009-2010 Cultural Season marks its biggest yet, with over 40 events to choose from.

Movie matinee at the auditorium sure to be larger than life hit
Some movies are just meant to be seen on the big screen. The upcoming thriller, to be featured at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium, is one of those. While movie licensing rights prohibits advertising the name of the movie, hints are permitted. As such, the city presents the following three clues: think big; prehistoric creatures; and tropical island. The movie is rated PG-13.

• Third Annual Cultural Extravaganza Promises to be Biggest and Best Yet
Mayor Ben Morris will be the first to tell you, he's no artist. Ask Police Chief Freddy Drennan about his artistic skills and you're sure to get a chuckle. The same holds true for many of the local, state and federal elected officials, media personalities and community business leaders who are tapping into their inner artists for the City of Slidell's third annual Cultural Extravaganza. The event will be held Saturday, August 22, from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The City of Slidell will host “dinner and a movie” family night with free admission and “recession friendly” concessions at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m.—doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

• Registration Begins for Children’s Summer Art Program
Registration for Monet in the Making!, a new children’s summer art program cooperatively sponsored by Olde Towne Arts Center, Slidell Art League and the City of Slidell, has begun for children aged 7 to 15. The program will include photography, drawing, cooking, painting, kaleidoscope making, mixed media, soda jerk, harmonica and jewelry making.
