The
Office of Animal Control houses and cares for animals
picked up by Animal Control Officers as well as
those animals brought to the animal shelter by private
citizens.
Animal
Control Officers patrol the streets of the City,
keeping the streets free of stray animals and enforcing
the ordinances of the City related to animals. In
addition, the officers investigate animal cruelty
cases, issue citations, inspect pet shops as well
as private and commercial kennels within the city
limits. Animal Control Officers also handle all
animal bite cases occurring within the city limits
and complete case reports on each bite case.
In
partnership with the private, nonprofit Animal
Assistance League, the Office tries
to find homes for abandoned animals and works to
educate the public on the safe and humane treatment
of animals. For information or to become a member,
please call 646-4267.
